In the past, Grand Teton National Park has been a "pass through" on the way to Yellowstone National Park for us. but we camped there for a couple of nights in 2018 and then decided that we had to make it "the location" the next time we were in the area. We are thrilled that we did! Here's why you should too!
Beauty of the Mountains
The Teton Range simply seems to pop out of no where when coming into the area from the East. Jackson Valley is a large open area that gives you broad views of the mountains. The lakes in the area are also great reflections of the mountains and add to the ambiance.
Wildlife Sightings
The mountains are great places to see wildlife because that's where they live. While the Moose is the icon of Grand Teton National Park, there are many other animals to see while you are taking in the views. The National Park web Site says that they have amphibians, birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles. They also mention "insects and others", but we were not necessarily on the lookout for those. In the park, we have personally seen: black bears, moose, grouse, bison, eagles, pikas, marmots, raccoons and water fowl.
History
There is a long and varied history to Grand Teton National Park. From Lodges and chapels to Dude Ranches and homesteads; there is so much to learn about the past of this area and how it came to be a National Park. We took a little time to learn more about Mormon Row on our trip in 2018 and then took a look into Jackson Lake Lodge in 2019.
